A number of docket events require a relationship or linking to a docket event already on the docket. This creates a relationship to document(s) and this appears when the court views reports and prepares for court or docketing orders.
Note: You may be asked to check the box: Refer to Existing Event(s)? When this box appears, relating or linking a document is optional. If you do not check the box, you won’t be prompted to select a category and document to create a relationship.
The 'Select the category to which your event relates' screen may also appear without the Refer to Existing Event(s)? question. If so, the event you are docketing MUST be related to an event already on the docket.
When the Select the category to which your event relates screen appears:
1. Click on the category of the EXISTING docket event if you know it.
Example: A motion docket event is in the motion category. If you are docketing an objection, select the motion category to find the motion to relate to the objection.
Only docket events in this category appear on the next screen when you click the Next button.
Select the docket event to relate to the document you are filing.
2. If you do not know the category of the EXISTING docket event,
Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and highlight all the categories.
Click Next button.
All docket events appear.
Select the docket event to relate to the document you are filing.
